Talk at Nanyang Girls

On Tuesday (04 Apr), I was invited by one of the teachers in Nanyang Girl’s High School to be the topic of discussion in one of their lecture series. The topic was on homosexuality. I was there with like 5 classes of secondary 3 girls to answers some of the questions they have about homosexuality. The talk lasted for about 1 hour. Hmmm… I wonder if they are the first school to have attempted this with a gay person? (If anyone knows of others schools who have done this before, please let me know)

Anyway, the aim of the lecture series was to provide the students a breath of exposure to different issues and subjects in society. From what I’ve heard, last year they invited Mr. Low Thia Kiang for the talk and the girls enjoyed themselves.

The session started with a short self-intro of myself and what I do and then it was off to the first question: “What is homosexuality?”. From there, other questions ranging from my own coming experience, discrimination by others, gay marriages, gay parenting to brokeback mountain.

The students were quite quick to ask questions, which I thought was a good thing, although Tim caught some girls drawing pikachoo at the back of the hall!
