Has the war began again?

First it was Choices, runned the Church of the Saviour, that church in Queenstown. Choices is a chain of Christian-based gay reparative therapy focus group, started in the US, which claimed to “cure” gay people. When in fact, they have done nothing by psychological damage and instilled an extraordinary sense of guilt, shame and repression to a gay person. Unfortunately, its has PRed itself well enough that they are one of the main and sometimes the only source of references, like the Army, SOS and even schools.

Then we have Focus on the Family, who tries their very best to appear non-sectorian and really interested in developing “healthy” families in Singapore. Again its another FOTF chain store by fundamentalist Christian groups started in where else but the US. Its aim is to promote Christian values in the family. Interestingly enough, its really their own brand of Christian values. What they try to impart is a static family value, that a family can only look and act “like that” anything else is abnormal. Not hard to see, they also preached the evils of homosexuality and they have blamed homosexuals for almost everything from Tsunami disaster to 911. Again, unfortunately, they have also managed to gain a foothold on to the govt. bodies. :-(

Now we have liberty league. A group that is sponsored by National Youth Council to promote healthy sexual health identity, yes and it includes gay people too. Uh? Shouldn’t I be happy about it? Frankly speaking, I think its much too early to conclude anything at this point of time.

Why do I have my suspicion:
1) The founder, Leslie Lung, is an ex-gay who wrote a book called “Freedom of Choice”. Two links surfaced when I searched for that name: Yawning Bread and SafeHaven.

2) The group is sponsored by a govt. body and its publically known. As far as I know, the govt. have veared off any groups and activities that mentions “gay affirmative” and prefers to promote anything “gay destruction”, e.g Choices, FOTF and all the gay films with sad-endings. Gay films with happy endings are banned because they “promote” homosexuality as a desirable lifestyle, thats what the govt. says. So its really a strange twist that they would support such a group if its really doing what it says it will do.

3) Leslie Lung never had any presence in the gay community, neither contributing social programs nor actively participated in gay-related forums (but then he/she could have posted with a nom de plum, says so much about being in the closet). So why would he/she think that he/she knows enough about the Singapore gay community to help out?

Incidently, one could notice somehow all 3 groups that I have listed are somehow related or linked. You do the maths.
