CasinYes and No
Published April 24th, 2005 in Homosexuality, SocietyI think some readers were confused about what I wrote in Casino and Gay Rights.
I was not saying that casinos and gay rights are linked. Rather, I was implying that the way the government is going make its decision on casinos, could have the same implication when it comes to making a decision about decriminalising 377 and 377a.
On another note, how you support or not support the allowance of casino in Singapore and your reasons for not supporting may also conflict with your wanting to have more equal rights of gay people in our society.
Why do I say so?
First we need to examine why you may not support having a casino in Singapore:
- Your religion forbides gambling or thinks that its a sin, of course, you cannot support having a casino, because of your religion.
- You feel that this will incur social costs and causes society to degenerate because of excessing gambling or promotion of gambling which will be seen as exciting in our society.
- You feel that gambling is not good and, hence, we should not have casinos and we should protect our young ones from such vices.
There may be other reasons, but you can also superimpose them like these:
- Your religion forbides homosexuality and think its a sin, of course, you cannot support homosexuality, because of your religion.
- You feel that this will incur social costs and causes society to degenerate, especially the family values because of the so-called homosexual lifestyle and promotion of homosexuality which will be seen as exciting in our society.
- You feel that homosexuality is not good and, hence, we should not have homosexuals and we should protect our young ones from such people.
Thanks. Revived my site for me, as I am too busy with work nowadays to think coherently. Sigh..
Oh well, that is the issue with our govt.. It is all about money. No such thing as being fair, trying to rule as “correctly” as possible. Nada. Zilch.
All is in the mind is ‘Will it impact my top and bottom line ?” If it contributes, it will be approved, no matter what.
Yeah, it looks like it will be like that for sometime to come…until we elect enough opposition to make them change their ways.
